Open Burning

Spokane County Fire District #3 does not regulate open burning of any type. The Fire District’s interest lies with fire safety. If fires are safe, meaning they will not escape and spread, the district is comfortable with open burning as long as they are aware that the burning is occurring. Burning regulations and enforcement of these regulations are the statutory authority and responsibility of Spokane County Department Building and Safety, Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency or the Washington State Department of Natural Resources depending on what type of material is being burned.

If you live in Spokane County District #3 and are granted permission to burn by any of the above agencies, please call 509-235-6645 on the day you will be burning to advise the location and material you are burning. This call will minimize the chances of an unnecessary response by the District in the event a passerby or neighbor reports the fire.
