Volunteer Firefighter
SCFD3 is accepting applications January 15th - March 9th for part-paid (non-full-time) positions, commonly referred to as volunteer members.

No prior fire service experience is required for most positions. All required training and certifications are provided by SCFD3, unless otherwise noted
Applicants may apply for one of the following roles:

1. All-Hazards Firefighter
This is the most comprehensive and physically demanding role.
All-Hazards Firefighters are trained and qualified to respond to a wide range of emergency incidents, including:
​

Structure fires

Wildland fires
-
Medical emergencies
-
Vehicle accidents
-
Other all-hazards incidents

Key points:
​

Requires the highest level of training and certification
-
Has the most rigorous physical and readiness standards
-
Members must meet broader response and availability requirements

Training includes both structural and wildland fire academies
​​
This role is best suited for applicants seeking the full scope of firefighting and emergency response experience.

2. ​Firefighter (Firefighter-Only)
​
Firefighter-Only members are trained to respond exclusively to fire suppression incidents, including both structural and wildland fires, without medical or hazardous materials response responsibilities.
​
This role bridges the gap between All-Hazards Firefighters and Wildland-Only Firefighters by focusing solely on firefighting operations.

Spring Wildland Fire Academy

3. Wildland Firefighter (Wildland-Only)

Wildland-Only Firefighters are trained exclusively for wildland fire response.

Key points:

Requires completion of the Spring Wildland Fire Academy
-
Responds only to wildland fire incidents
-
Does not include structure fire or medical response
-
Fewer overall certifications required compared to the All-Hazards Firefighter role

This role is ideal for applicants interested specifically in wildland fire suppression.
​
​4. Tender Operator (Tender-Only)
​
Tender Operators play a vital support role by operating water tenders and assisting with water supply operations during emergency incidents.

Key points:

Responds to both structure fires and wildland fires

Provides water supply and operational support on scene

Assists with fire training activities
-
Does not require full All-Hazards Firefighter certification
-
Training is provided and focused on tender operations and support functions
​​
This role is ideal for applicants who want to be actively involved in emergency response without the physical demands or certification requirements of frontline firefighting.
​
5. EMS-Only (Emergency Medical Services)
​
EMS-Only members respond to medical emergencies and provide patient care as part of SCFD3’s emergency medical response system.

Key points:

Responds only to medical emergencies

Members function as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs)
-
Does not include fire or wildland response
-
Applicants must already hold a current Washington State EMT license or National Registry (NREMT) certification
-
Orientation and district-specific training are provided

This role is ideal for licensed EMTs who want to serve their community in an emergency response capacity without fire suppression responsibilities.

6. Support Services
​
Support Services members provide non-suppression operational support that is essential to effective emergency response.
Responsibilities may include:

Incident support and logistics
-
Administrative and office support
-
Facility upkeep and maintenance support, including:
-
Assistance with lawn care and basic maintenance projects at fire stations
-
Cleaning and upkeep of the administrative building
-
Janitorial-style support such as cleaning bathrooms, floors, and common areas
-
Light kitchen and workspace cleaning
-
Data entry and computer-based training management
-
Station or operational assistance
-
Occupancy and safety inspections
-
Hydrant testing
-
Some roles may allow for limited remote work, depending on assignment
